[Showcase] Cyriak
For as long as I can remember I've been partial to the obscure, disturbing, strange, etc. One of the joys in my life is finding something that shocks me, and at this point of "shockfinding" I've become so desensitized to a lot of stuff...
Anyway, long long ago somebody showed me "Baaa", and I had definitely never seen anything like it prior. I'm not even sure how to describe it to you, uhh. It would best if you were to just watch this. <YOUTUBE id="WQO-aOdJLiw" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQO-aOdJLiw"><URL url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQO-aOdJLiw">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQO-aOdJLiw</URL></YOUTUBE>
This video was honestly disturbing to me when I had watched it, but also very captivating. Of course the visuals... were the disturbing part (I live for the thrill of being disturbed) but I think the music really does it. There's so much hellish carnival sounding dissonance and triad hits. Cyriak makes both the videos as well as the music, and I'd love to see some of his project files.

So, that was my introduction to Cyriak and you are now on the same page as <SIZE size="95">little</SIZE> Gravaged -- and it only gets better from here. I of course subscribed and watched several videos in shock and awe. Youtube, however was not the only place I ended up seeing this creator. As a kid I loved Cartoon Network, and as an insomniac I loved CN's late night block-- "Adult Swim". I think that watching this at such a young age may have influenced my surrealistic and absurdist humour; as that is much of the content. Anyway, in between commercials and the actual program they have short "bumps". There were the classic ones where it was a black screen with white text, but there were also many animations -- which at the end the logo "[adult swim]" was shown.

Crazy! These were on all the time, and I did not even know these were made by Cyriak until a few years later. In hindsight though, they totally scream Cyriak. He has such a cool style.
<U>The following are my favourite videos from him, or ones that I find to be noteworthy!</U>

This one is still really unsettling to me when I watch it. It is my absolute favourite! Most of his animations of course have some realistic models that I think are based off of legitimate images, but this one puts absolute abominations in a horrific late 50s, early 60s world. The quality of the video, the colouration and alterations he did give it such a weird, eerie vibe (not even mentioning the music!).

This was the second video of his that I saw, which has a very similar vibe to the first. The music is so so neurotic. This is a classic, and I believe was one of his viral hits. Btw cow spiders are my nightmare.

Ahhh meow mix. This is seemingly simplistic, but I love the turn it takes. Deeper and deeper into the weird. Like the others, the music is great. I particularly really enjoy this one though.

I must reiterate that he does both the music <I>AND</I> the visuals! A while back I used to send unsuspecting friends clips of his videos through snapchat, or I'd put it on my story to weird everyone out. It worked due to their low weird tolerance. Although I love the visuals, which were my initial appeal, I think the music is great and I would listen to it on its own. If you feel similarly, you're in luck because Cyriak has a <URL url="https://soundcloud.com/cyriak-1">Soundcloud</URL>. Don't forget to check out his <URL url="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Ntx-EF3LzKY1nQ5rTUP2g">Youtube</URL> channel as well!

His visuals are created with Adobe Aftereffects I believe, and the music comes from FL Studio!
