The CARTOON Thread
#1
Cartoons were a big part of my childhood, and as an adult there are cartoons geared towards me that I am also able to enjoy. Of course there are kids cartoons, cartoons that pretty much any age demographic can enjoy (Maybe with the exception of people as old as the planet itself), as well as adult cartoons. Talk about the animation, talk about the music, or whatever else you want to! I personally am just excited to mention various cartoons that I used to like and like now. This will most likely be a pretty nostalgic thread. I am going to include a couple rules though.
<LIST>
  • <LI>No Anime (It should get a thread of its own)</LI>
</LIST>
<LIST>
  • <LI>No animated <I>MOVIES</I></LI>
</LIST>

I'm not going to make a list yet, instead I will ask questions to create some points of discussion. Do you watch any currently? Adult animation has come really far and there are lots of great options. I love South Park and have been watching it for years! We'll maybe get into some obscure ones later. What's your favourite cartoon theme song? Animators and artists, which cartoons have influenced you the most?

Given the global spread of the community here, I anticipate some bizarre selections.

At the moment, there isn't really that many notable or good cartoons where I am, the only exception is the show "The Amazing World of Gumball" it is a very unique show that merges all sorts of cartoon styles and has some really great skits, and also, at times, can break the fourth wall and relate to real life. Overall, really superb. Anyone else know of some really good, modern day cartoons?

We talked about this earlier, but I want to put it in the thread. To answer your question, I liked Adventure Time when it came out. That's a good modern cartoon in my opinion. There are some cartoons that people I know enjoy, that are modern. I've heard that Steven Universe is a great one, along with Gravity Falls, and I think something called "We Bears Bears?"
Gumball has really really cool art.

I've not heard of either of those shows. I'm surprised I haven't heard of Skunk Fu because I liked a few other shows around that era! I loved the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. The latter being one of my favourite animations, I really like the hyperrealistic shots that come out at random. I liked Camp Lazlo, and uh I think Chowder was on around that time.

Grim adventures of billy and Mandy is amazing!!! Same with flapjack. I am still moderately effected by its disappearance though. i realy wanted to see that one continue on longer. Chowder Was also a great one.
Camp lazlo however gave me nightmares so im not a big fan of it. One episode in particular, i forgot the name of it, but i really really disliked it.

Slyth, I haven't asked you this so I don't know (But I'm going to assume), HOW COULD WE FORGET INVADER ZIM? Flapjack I thought had a lot more in it, I didn't know why it was canceled. I'm interested in whatever Lazlo episode that was.

So not like the first cartoon I've watched, but like the oldest date wise? I mean Loony Tunes probably. I don't want to count that, but there are a few cartoons from that era I have watched. I'm gonna go with Popeye as the oldest.

You just reminded me that i watched every episode of the road runner. That cartoon was like my favorite thing in the whole world when i was a kid! :lol:

Actually, people tell me this a lot that i should see invader zim. Its one of the many cartoons i never watched. looks interesting though.

I know the camp lazlo episodes plot was that the moose, someone got bit and they said it was some monster or something that would comeback to eat them. then they had to steal a nose hair from someone? Idk, it was weird. :?

Wow, I'm literally shocked that you haven't seen it. I'm not sure if you watch any cartoons these days, but I guarantee that you would like it even now. I have no idea how it was a kids show in its day. It was definitely apart of that "XD RAWR" thing...long ago. Many weirdos and emos and whatever idolized the show, which I was one of. I think you would really like it. I might revisit a couple episodes, I remember rewatching it as an older teenager kind of in shock because of how dark it was. If new episodes were to come out today I'd check them out.
Yeah I had a feeling Heman wasn't the oldest cartoon you had seen. However, I think just about everybody has seen Looney Tunes, but many people missed a lot of the older and possibly obscure cartoons.
Wacky Racers for example. Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, etc.
I have a distinct image in my head of somebody pulling on the camp leader's nose hairs at one point in Lazlo. I don't think it was the same thing though.

Adventure Time really revived cartoons in my opinion. Around that time in Cartoon Network history, they were having all those live action shows and things were just not good.

I might have to spend some time checking Zim out then. I know when boom found out i never say it that he was bamboozled. Though, on the contrary, even though ive seen some of the main cartoons, i spent most of my childhood watching documentary's :lol:

Pink panther was great stuff! I watched a lot of that!

Even though it is fairly dated, I find tom and Jerry to be a fun cartoon that has always been good at killing time. The thing that really grabs my interest is how long the show has been around, and how much times it has been completely remade by different animators, even though all it is is a old time show that heavily relies on slap stick comedy. Even in modern times you can still catch it on TV and it is still as funny as it was back then.

Yeah, i used to watch some of it when i was a kid. It was pretty funny. Though, i dont like the remake. T&J is to classic to make a new version of thats as good as it used to be.

Any one remember the Tom and Jerry movie, The great race(I think thats what it was called) I watched that like 5 times. It was to good!

This reminds me! First of all I want to say that I'm not a big Tom & Jerry fan. I kinda liked them as a kid but I had always preferred other cartoons.
